Shall I Go To A & E or call INJURY-FIX?
Your injury may be serious when:

– You feel a tearing sensation at the time of injury and, following this, you are in considerable pain and unable to walk.
– You are unable to support any weight through your injured leg when attempting to walk 1 hour after the injury occurred.
– You have pain in your lower back or lower leg as well as in the back of your thigh.
– You develop pain, numbness or tingling down your leg or into your foot.
– Your pain gets worse over 2 days or you generally feel unwell.

If 1 or more of the above points apply to you, seek medical advice. In the meantime refer to Day 1 for the application of RICE to limit further damage. If none of the above points refer to you, you are an ideal candidate for self-treatment.

Self Treatment

If your injury happened 3 days ago or less, start the treatment programme at Day 1. If your injury happened more than 3 days ago, start the treatment programme at Day 4 to Day 8.

This allows your hamstring muscle to fully regain the ability to perform these more demanding tasks without the danger of re-injury. Avoid sprinting, jumping and suddenly changing direction when you are not warmed up or feel tired. If, despite these measures, your injury recurs, seek advice from a physiotherapist to determine whether other factors are contributing to this condition.
